Rossville Girl, 18 Killed in Accident

A Rossville youth was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday night by officials at Stormont-Vail Hospital where he was admitted early Saturday after he was injured and a Rossville girl was killed when their vehicle ran into the side of a freight train at a Rossville crossing.

Rudy T. Crawford, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Crawford, Rossville, suffered a cut on his right ear and back and neck injuries and was admitted to the hospital after several stitches were taken to close the wound.

Vicki Jean Logan, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Logan, Rossville, the only passenger in the vehicle Crawford was driving, was dead on arrival at the same hospital. She suffered severe head injuries.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the Union Pacific train was headed east and the new pickup-type vehicle was southbound when it struck the side of the engine. The vehicle was dragged an estimated 49 feet and both occupants were thrown out.
