    Helen and Leo Lord, Rossville, celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Sunday.

    Leo N. Lord and Helen A. Kokenge were married January 19, 1952, at the Washington County Courthouse, Washington, KS.

    They are the parents of Susan L. Stapel, Meriden; Micheal L. Lord, Willard; Cindy K. Sweany, St. Marys; and Debbie D. Lord, Rossville. They have three grandchildren.

    Mr. Lord is retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. Mrs. Lord is employed by the Rossville Valley Manor.

    Leo and Helen Lord of Rossville are celebrating their 45th wedding
    anniversary today.

    Leo Noel Lord and Helen Ann Kokenge were married Jan. 19, 1952. at the Washington (Kan.) County Courthouse.

    They are the parents of four children, Susan Stapel, Meriden; Micheal Lord, Willard; Cindy Sweany, St. Marys; and Debbie Lord, Rossville. They have three grandchildren.

    Mr. Lord is a veteran of World War II. He is retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

    Mrs. Lord is employed at Rossville Valley Manor.

    Leo N. ‘Buck’ Lord
    Leo N. “Buck” Lord, 91, of Rossville, passed away March 16,2011, at Stormont Vail Regional Hospital in Topeka. He was born March 20,1919, in Gage County, Nebraska, near Liberty, the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Alice Lewis Lord. He grew up in the Frankfort community where he attended school.

    Mr. Lord served in the U.S. Army 183rd Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. He joined the service two months before Pearl Harbor. Battles he fought in include Normandy, Rhineland, Central Europe, Northern France and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lord had worked for the Union Pacific Railroad. He later worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Topeka, retiring on April 25,1982. He was a member of Jimmie Lillard Post 31 of the American Legion in Rossville.

    On Jan. 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Helen A. Kokenge at the Washington County Courthouse in Washington, Kansas. She preceded him in death on Jan. 26, 2011. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Arnold and Kenneth Lord; a sister, Creta McMillian; a son-in-law, Rex Stapel; brothers-in-law, Wayne McMillian, Delbert Hale and Thomas Simpson; sister-in-law Verla Lord.

    Survivors include his son, Mike Lord and wife Laura of Willard, daughters, Susan Stapel of Meriden, Cindy Sweany and huband Jim of St. Marys, Debbie Lord of Rossville; stepdaughter, Donna Miller and husband Bill of Beatrice, Neb.; two sisters, Helen Simpson of Topeka and Donna Hale of Montrose, Colo.; a sister-in-law, LaVon Lord of Topeka; four grandchildren, Matt, Christine, Michelle and Rachel; three great-grandchildren, Freddie, Faith and Floyd.

    Private graveside services with military honors were conducted by Jimmie Lillard Post 31 of the American Legion at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, KS 66533.

    ROSSVILLE-Leo N. "Buck" Lord, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Stormont Vail Regional Hospital in Topeka.

    Survivors include his son, Mike (Laura) Lord, Willard, daughters, Susan Stapel, Meriden, Cindy (Jim) Sweany, St. Marys, Debbie Lord, Rossville and step-daughter Donna (Bill) Miller, Beatrice, NE; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

    Mr. Lord will lie in state from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville. Private graveside services with Military Honors conducted by Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion will be at the Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O. Box 642, Rossville, KS. 66533.
