| Obituary- Alexander, John John C. Alexander, a retired mer¬chant, died about three o’clock last Friday morning following a year or two illness from recurring attacks on his heart.
The deceased gentleman and his wife returned to Rossville to make their home in 1925 coming here from Neal, Kansas, where he retired from the mercantile business. Mr. Alexander first came to Rossville with his family in October of 1904 engaging in the mercantile business. In the spring of 1907 he sold his business to Guth & Ohlfest and moved to Iola, Kansas. Two of his married children remained here to make Rossville their permanent home and the son, Sam, accompanied his parents to Iola. In 1908 and 1909 Mr. Alexander was again in business in Lavant, Kansas, but moved to Iola in March 1910. His business career in Iola then extended six years when he again sold out and entered busi¬ness in Neal, Kansas. Prior to his retirement in 1905 he lived in Neal 8 years.
Mr. Alexander was a native of Monroe, Michigan, where he was born August 7, 1848. At the time of his death he was 78 years, 4 months and 24 days old. He came to Kansas in 1878, buying a quarter section of raw prairie land in Leavenworth county. December 31st, 1878 he was united in marriage to Rubie Muncil of Tonganoxie. Four children were born to them. Of these, one daugh¬ter, Olive M. Mark passed away in April, 1906. The surviving members of his family are the widow, two daughters, Mrs. May Stewart and Mrs. Grace L. Davis, both of Ross¬ville and one son Samuel H. Alexander of Colby, Kansas. There are also 9 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday January 2 at the Presbyterian church, conducted by the Rev. H. L. Nelson, of Topeka. Mr. Alexander had been a Mason in good standing for the past 58 years. Services at the grave were conducted by that order.
The pallbearers were: D. C. Harbaugh, I. T. Hopkins, L. F. Page, J. B. Davis, C. E. Gresser, and A. A. Cless.
The out of town friends here for the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Harbaugh of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Cleve Cole of Colby; Mr. Henry Murr, Mr. Wm. Moore, Mr. Frank Moore, Mr. Louis Brune all of McLouth; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Markham of Topeka. Out-of-town relatives included: Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Brad¬ford, of McLouth; Mr. and Mrs. W. Bradford, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kientz and son of Meriden, Kansas; Mr. H. H. Muncil of Kansas City, Ks. Mr. S. H. Alexander, Colby, Kan.; Mrs. Ray Scott of Kansas City, Mo.
