| Obituary- Oldfield, Emily Mrs. Emily Oldfield Died Yesterday
Mrs. Emily Oldfield died at 6 o'clock yesterday morning after a short illness. Death was primarily due to valvular heart disease with lobar pneumonia as a contributory cause. The latter developed shortly after her last illness started last Friday. The funeral will be held tomorrow, (Friday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home on North Main street the service conducted by Rev. McCulloch of the Methodist church. Interment will be made in the Rossville cemetery.
Mrs. Oldfield's death came rather unexpectedly to her friends, her condition becoming decidedly worse late Tuesday night. She was one of the early settlers of Rossville township coming here with her husband and her family in 1880 from Illinois. She was a native of England, where she was born in Derbyshire, July 28, 1839 and would have been 81 years old next July 28. Mr. and Mrs. Oldfield came to Illinois in the early seventies with their family of two children, William and Mary. After eight years residence there they came to Rossville and settled on the farm now occupied by the James White family. The other children, John, Fannie and Tom were born in America. By hard work and good management they accumulated much of the land surrounding the home farm which they divided among the children after coming to town, about 12 years ago. Mr. Oldfield died in December 1913.
Mrs. Oldfield is survived by her children, two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Mary Cottle, Mrs. Fannie Cottle of Rossville, John and William Oldfield of Rossville and Tom Oldfield of Richland, Kansas.
