| Obituary- Pendleton, Ira Ira N. Pendleton
Ira N. Pendleton was born near Gates City, in Scott County Virginia, March 17, 1854. He passed away April 8, 1937, at the age of 83 years. On may 4, 1877 he was married to Rachel Jones of Sneedsville, Tennessee. To this union seven children were born: G.W. Pendleton, who has preceded him in death; Mrs. J.B. Davis of Silver Lake; Mrs. Albert Black of St. Marys; Robert Pendleton of Topeka; Dudley Pendleton of Wichita; Mrs. Merton Pennington of Leavenworth; Mrs. Ross Cowperthwaite of Silver Lake.
Mr. Pendleton was a member of the Baptist church. He spent a good many years of his life on farms in Virginia, Tennessee and Kentucky, and finally came to Kansas in December, 1909, where he has resided since on the same farm.
Mr. Pendleton has always enjoyed life. He loved his friends, family and home. He was greatly admired for his hospitality for no one ever came into his home but what were made to feel heartily welcome. He was very good natured and kind always thinking of others’ needs before himself. He had a wonderful personality and character and will be greatly missed in the community and home.
Besides his wife and children there are 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren who survive him.
Ira N. Pendleton
Ira N. Pendleton, 83, of Silver Lake, died Thursday morning at his home west of Silver Lake. The body was taken to Shellabarger’s mortuary. Funeral services were held Saturday from the Silver Lake Methodist church. Interment was in Silver Lake cemetery.
Mr. Pendleton was born March 17, 1854, in Scott county, Virginia. He came to Kansas in 1909 and had been a resident of Shawnee county in the vicinity of Silver Lake about thirty years.
He is survived by his widow and six children: Mrs. Norman Cowperthwaite and Mrs. J.B. Davis, of Silver Lake; Mrs. W.A. Black of St. Marys, Mrs. M.M. Pennington, of Leavenworth; William Dudley Pendleton of Wichita and Robert Pendleton of Topeka.
The pallbearers were Messrs. Richard Faulkner, Abe Mowers, Kirk Mowers, J.B. Herrington, Frank Colter and Guilford Hook.
