    John Andrew Pitts
    John Andrew Pitts, 74, Topeka, died Monday, May 6, 1996, at Melvern Lake.
    Mr. Pitts operated heavy equipment for Local No. 101 Hoisting and Portable Engineers until he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

    He was born May 3, 1922, in Bourbon County, the son of Arthur Harrison and Nola Elizabeth Inman Pitts.

    Mr. Pitts was a member of Local No. 101 Hoisting and Portable Engineers.

    He was married to Grace A. Beckford on Sept. 19, 1948, at Harding. She died Dec. 22, 1984.

    Survivors include a daughter, Darla L. Conner, Rossville; four brothers, David Lusk, Goodson, Mo., Edward Lusk and Calvin Pitts, both of Fort Scott, and Kenneth "Pete” Pitts, Olathe; five sisters, Helen Hood, Josephine Michaels and Grace Buford, all of Fort Scott. Juanita Schroder, Topeka, and Rowena Hines, Columbus, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

    Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Parker-Price Mortuary. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Mapelton Cemetery at Mapelton. Mr. Pitts will lie in state after 8 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
