Cynthia Lucille (Cindy) Preston, 66, of Silver Lake, Kansas went to be with Our Lord and Savior on April 24th, 2011 Easter Sunday.
She was born February 20th, 1945 in Hobbs New Mexico the daughter and oldest child of Ruth and George Newton. She attended the Fairbury School System. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln in 1967.
She worked as a classroom teacher in elementary education for the USD 501 and later went on to earn a special certification to teach as a Certified Reading Specialist. She retired from USD 501 in 2005. Cindy was a nurturing Grandmother of five, an avid golfer, a member of Chapter FJ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Lowman United Methodist Church, the Red Hat Society, A.D.K. and Queen of Jobs Daughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ruth and George Newton.
She is survived by her husband Fred; two children Matt Preston (wife Sheri Preston) and Heather Houser (husband Paul Houser); Grandchildren: Abagail Houser, Trevor Houser, Ian Preston, Sydney Houser and Shawn Preston; Siblings: Susan Madden of Bellevue, NE; Robert Newton (wife Sharyn Newton) of Lincoln,
NE; Richard Newton (wife Jeanne Newton) of Fairbury, NE and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., today April 26th 2011 at Lowman United Methodist Church. A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00a.m. Wednesday, April 27th, 2011 at the church. A second ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 28th at the Gerdes-Meyer Funeral Home in Fairbury, NE followed by interment in the Fairbury Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is assisting with arrangements.
