    Melford E. Reser
    SILVER LAKE — Melford E. Reser, 79, Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.
    Mr. Reser was an Army veteran of World War II and served during the Occupation of Japan. He was honorŽably discharged.
    He was born Nov. 5, 1916, at RossŽville, the son of William L. and L. Pearl Wood Reser.
    Mr. Reser was a member of the Carpenters Union Local No. 1445 an North Post No. 400 of the American Legion.
    He was married to Clara M. Bower on Oct. 8, 1940, at Oskaloosa. She survives.
    Other survivors include a son, RodŽney M. Reser, Silver Lake; two daughters, Marilyn Bush and Patricia Haynes, both of Topeka; three brothers, Ben Reser and Randall ReŽser, both of Topeka, and Robert ReŽser, Tecumseh; a sister, Nadine Jones, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
    Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Prairie Home CemeŽtery. North Post No. 400 of the AmerŽican Legion will conduct military serŽvices. Mr. Reser will lie in state from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home at Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Kansas, 4300 S.W. Drury Lane, ToŽpeka, 66604.
