  Obituary- Ridgway, Mattie Funeral of Mrs. Ridgway Funeral services for Mrs. Mattie Emily Ridgway, 69, who died Friday morning, August 3, at her home, 305 East Fifth street, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the First Christian church, where a final and fitting tribute was paid to the departed by the church pastor, the Rev. Harold B. Duryea, who officiated. The sermon was based on the eleventh chapter of Hebrews. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful and bore mute testimony to the love and esteem in which the deceased was held in the community. The ladies having charge of the flowers were: Mrs. Homer J. Hendricks, Mrs. W.A. Bartmess, Mrs. Irvin Kern and Virgie Cadle. Mrs. Charles Wooten, Mrs. Earl Greenstreet and Miss Pauline Jones accompanied at the pieano by Mrs. Herman Esch, jr., formed the trio which sang the hymns of "The Touch of His Hand on Mone," "It is Well With My Soul," and "Nearer Still Nearer." Irvin Kern, W.A. Bartmess, Harry Brown, John Hole, Xury Hole and C.A. McPeak, were pall bearers. Interment was in Fairview cemetery beside her husband, the late W.H. Ridgway, who preceded her in death seven years ago. In the death of Mrs. Ridgwey [sic] Cherryvale loses a good citizen and loyal friend. She was a woman, beloved by all who knew her. She possessed a noble character, the influence of which will never die. She was an ardent worker in church and attended church as long as her health permitted. The following obituary written by Mrs. Ridgway on November 23, 1927, was read by the Rev. Duryea at the services: "Mattie E. Richards, daughter of John and Elizabeth (Pickett) Richards, was born in Palmyra, Indiana, February 12, 1859. She came to Kansas with her parents in 1869. She was baptized into Christ, November, 1874. "After the death of her mother in 1879 the family moved to Parsons, Kansas, where on August 8, 1880, she was married to W.H. Ridgway of Washington, Indiana, who died June 21, 1921. Those left to mourn her are two sons and a daughter, Floyd of Denver, Colo., Walter and Mrs. Dora Roberts of Tulsa, Okla., two sisters, Mrs. Anna Robertson-Dodge of Chico, Calif., and Mrs. A.H. Stamp of Rossville, Kansas, and four grandchildren survive. "And whence comes this dark shadow the perfume of flowers, the tread of soft footsteps, the pulsation of the motor hearse in the yard, it may be said in the language of Mark 14:8 "She hath done what she could." Out-of-town relatives and friends present at the funeral were Mrs. Dora Roberts and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ridgway and daughter Daphane May, Tulsa, Okla., Floyd Ridgway, Denver, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. C.A. McPeak and daughter Ada, of Parson, Mrs. A.H. Stamp, Rossville, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kelly, Mrs. John Chansler, Dennis; Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Jennie Berning, John Hole, Xury Hole and Mr. Scott of Chanute. --Cherryvale Review.
