Services were at 11 a.m. Friday at Verschelden Funeral Home for Wayne M. Salisbury, 79, St. Marys, who died Tuesday, March 30, 1982, at a Lawrence hospital.
He was born January 21, 1903, at Soldier, the son of Elmore H. and Viola Jane Berry Salisbury. He moved to St. Marys about 1934.
Mr. Salisbury and a brother owned and operated St. Marys Derby Oil station from 1938 to 1964. He was associated with Denton Oil Company from 1964 until he retired in 1968.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and chairman of the church board many years; Boy Scouts of America and was assistant scoutmaster many years; and a member of the Chamber of Commerce, all at St. Marys.
He married Irene A. Ward May 17, 1928, at Soldier. She survives. He was preceded in death by a son, Garold Wayne Salisbury.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Madge M. Fraley, Dodge City; a son, Noel W. Salisbury, Lawrence; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Thomas, Keystone, S.D., Mrs. Velda Koster, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Marie Crumpton, Richmond, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Burial was in Mount Olive Cemetery, St. Clere. Casket bearers were Henry Cheney, Ray Barthuly, David Sharp, Clayton Perry Sr., Cletus Perry, Gene Wells. The family met with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys United Methodist Church.
