    Carl E. Scott
    ST. MARYS – Carl E. Scott, 70, St. Marys, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.

    Mr. Scott was a civil engineer for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 35 years before he retired in 1987. He was a medical technician staff sergeant in the European Theater of Operations during World War II.

    He was born Dec. 4, 1925, at Edmond, the son of Ben Butler and Nettie Mae Godwin Scott. He was graduated from Lenora High School in 1944 and attended the University of Kansas. He was a longtime St. Marys resident.

    Mr. Scott was a member of Aubert-Walls Post No. 779of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at St. Marys and the American Legion in Topeka.

    He was married to Joyce Gibson on Dec. 25, 1946 at Lenora. She survives.

    Other survivors include two daughters, Connie Scott and Karen Seele, both of St. Marys; three sons, Steve Scott, Rossville; Brian Scott, Topeka, and Kevin Scott, Atlanta; a sister, Esther Williams, Lenora; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be at a later date and will be private. Mr. Scott will lie in state after 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carl E. Schott Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home.
