ST. MARYS—William J. “Bill” Seitz, 69, St.
Marys, died Wednesday, Nov. 6,2002, at his home.
Mr. Seitz was a telecommunications engineer
and retired from ConTel Telephone Co. in 1991. He also was an antique clock repairman and operated a shop in his home for the past 25 years. He worked for Charlie Sharp’s gas station and the Farmer’s Union Co-op service station while he was in high school, and later for its oil and seed corn plant before joining the Army. He served in the Army as an anti-air artillery specialist from 1951 to 1953.
He was born May 21,1933, on a farm near St. Marys, to Bernard and Lena Pageler Seitz. He graduated from St, Marys High School in 1951.
Mr. Seitz was a member of Immaculate Concep¬tion Catholic Church, a 50-year member and a fourth-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 657. He was past post commander of Hoy-Heim Post No. 178 of the American Legion and a member of St. Marys Historical Society.
He married Alice Otting on April 26,1959. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, James Seitz, Wichita; a daughter, Janet Valentine, Cincinnati; two sisters, Mary K. Denton, St. Marys, and Joan Marie Sebring, Topeka; a brother, Albert J. Seitz, Ottawa; and two grandsons.
Mr. Seitz was preceded in death by a son, Joseph R. Seitz, on Jan. 7,1989.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at St. Marys. Mr. Seitz will lie in state from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys and after 6:30 p.m. at the church. A rosary recited at 7 p.m. today at the church will be followed by visitation.
Contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or Catholic Education and sent in care of the funeral home.
