Miss Thelma Lillard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lillard and Mr. Ralph Higbee son of Mr. and Mrs. Schuyler Higbee of Silver Lake, were quietly married Wednesday at Lyndon, Kansas.
Mrs. Higbee is a graduate of the Silver Lake High school and for a number of years was operator at the Silver Lake Central. For several months Mrs. Higbee has been employed in Rossville in the Dr. H.H. Miller office.
Mr. Higbee is an employee of the Jewel Tea Company.
Mr. and Mrs. Higbee will be at home at Emporia, Kansas. |

ST. MARYS — Thelma L. Short, 89, St. Marys, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at a St. Marys nursing home.
She was born July 4,1909, in Rossville, the daughter of James M. and Myrtle Mamie Lillard. She grew up in Rossville and Valencia, and was graduated in 1927 from Silver Lake High School. She had lived in St. Marys since 1957.
Mrs. Short worked in local grocery stores and was a telephone operator in Rossville and Silver Lake.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of the Hoy Heim Post in St. Marys and was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
She married Everett Short June 4, 1957, in Westmoreland. He survives.
Mrs. Short also is survived by a sister, Marjie Hoobler, Rossville.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Mrs. Short will lie in state after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Jimmy Lillard American Legion Post No. 31, Rossville, or to the charity of the donor’s choice and can be sent in care pf the funeral home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, 66536.

Thelma L. Short, 89, St. Marys, died Thursday, December 24,1998 at St. Marys Manor.
She was born July 4, 1909 at Rossville, the daughter of James M. and Myrtle Marney Lillard.
Thelma grew up in the Rossville and Valencia communities. She was graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1927, and had lived in St. Marys since 1957. She worked in local grocery stores and had been a telephone operator in Rossville and Silver Lake. She was a member of the Auxiliary of the American Legion of the Hoy Heim Post #178 in St. Marys. She was a member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
She was married to Everett Short on June 4, 1957, at Westmoreland. He survives.
She is also survived by a sister, Marjie Hoobler, Rossville.
Her service was Saturday at the Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys.
