Raphael “Ray” Simecka
Raphael J. “Ray” Simecka, 87, Palm Springs, CA, died of cancer Thursday, February 26, 1998, at Desert Hospital Hospice in Palm Springs.
He was born October 24,1910, in Washington County, KS, the son of Joseph B. and Mary Cander Simecka. He spent his boyhood on a farm near Delia and graduated from Delia High School. He was a trooper on the Kansas Highway Patrol for 24 years.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 30 years, enlisting as a seaman and retiring as a Lieutenant Commander, at which time the family moved to Escondido, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 1997, and is survived by a son, Ron Simecka, Palm Springs, CA. He has two stepsons, Robert Kerlinger, Poquoson, VA, and John Kerlinger, Rancho Bernardo, CA.
Other survivors include three sisters, Eleanor Thompson, Rossville, Leona Paulini, Mobile, AL, and Josephine Constant, North Topeka; and two brothers, Leo Simecka, Topeka, and Ben Simecka, Silver Lake.
He was cremated. Inurnment will be later in a Naval cemetery.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Raphael
"Ray" Simecka, 87, Palm Springs, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 1998, at a Palm Springs hospital.
Mr. Simecka was a trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol for 24 years before he retired. He also served 30 years in the Navy before he retired at the rank of lieutenant commander.
He was born Oct. 24, 1910, in Washington County, Kan., the son of Joseph B. and Mary Cander Simecka. He was raised on a farm near Delia, Kan., and was graduated from Delia High School. He moved to Escondido, Calif., after his retirement from the Navy.
Mr. Simecka was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Simecka, in 1997.
Survivors include a son, Ron Simecka, Palm Springs; two stepsons, Robert Kerlinger, Poquoson, Va., and John Kerlinger, Rancho Bernardo, Calif.; three sisters, Eleanor Thompson, Rossville, Kan., Leona Pauline, Mobile, Ala., and Josephine Constant, North Topeka, Kan.; and two brothers, Leo Simecka, Topeka, Kan., and Ben Simecka, Silver Lake, Kan.
Mr. Simecka was cremated. Inurnment will be at a Naval Cemetery at a later date.
