    Edwin Simmons
    Edwin “Ed” Simmons, 82, Topeka, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at a Rossville nursing home.

    Mr. Simons [sic Simmons] served 14 years in the Army and was with the Counter Intelligence Corps. He later was a manufacturer’s representative until he retired in 1983. After he retired he was active in the Service Corps of Retired Executives and in the ACIC Veterans organization, where he served many years as chairman of the ACICV’s national membership committee.

    He was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of John and Lula Dean Simmons. He was raised in Abilene and moved with his family to Rockford, Ill. He attended the University of Wisconsin. He moved to Topeka after he was discharged from the Army.

    He married Mary Tierney on July 30, 1940, at Richfield. She survives.

    Other survivors include a son, Edwin Craig Simmons, Denver; a daughter, Donna Marie Jewell, Topeka; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

    Mr. Simmons was cremated. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. David’s Episcopal Church.
