    Sister Frances Skalla
    ATCHISON — Sister Frances Skalla. 88, Atchison, died Saturday, March 12, 1988, at Mount St. Scholastics Convent here.

    Sister Frances was a housekeeper about 28 years for Atchison sisters who taught in Benedictine-staffed schools in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa and Nebraska. From 1947 until she retired in 1982, she assisted with domestic services at Mount St. Scholastica and Benedictine colleges.

    She was born Feb. 4, 1900, at Hlinsko, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Pokorny Skalla. She moved to the United States when she was 5 and lived in Hanover until 1918, when she joined the Benedictine sisters in Atchison. She professed her religious vows in 1919.

    Survivors include a sister, Mary Masat, Hanover.

    Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount St. Scholastica Chapel. Burial will be in the convent cemetery. A vigil service will be at 4:30 p.m. today at the convent chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount St. Scholastica Convent. Harouff-Arensberg Funeral Home of Atchison is in charge of arrangements.
