    Golden Anniversary
    Mr. and Mrs. Neil Slattery will observe their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Rossville Community Center Sunday, November 11, 1973.

    Friends and relatives are invited to call. The couple requests that no gifts be presented.

    Mr. and Mrs. Slattery lived on a farm southwest of Mayetta until they retired seven years ago and moved to Rossville.

    The couple has two children, Paul Slattery, Mayetta, and Mrs. Patricia Cummings, Topeka. They have six grandchildren.

    Mrs. Julia L. Slattery
    Mrs. Julia Lee Slattery, 87, Rossville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 1990, at a Topeka hospital.

    Mrs. Slattery was a teacher in Jackson County, rural schools until the late 1940s.

    She was born Feb. 9, 1902, in Netawaka, the daughter of Samuel and Jessie Cochren Hemphill. Both parents died when she was young and she was raised by her maternal grandparents in the Netawaka and Holton areas.

    She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville, the Golden Agers, St. Anthony’s Altar Society at the church, Retired Teachers Association and the Countryside Club.

    She was married to Cornelius Slattery Nov. 17, 1923, in Holton. They farmed in Jackson County until 1966 when they retired and moved to Rossville. He died March 6, 1978. Two sons and a daughter died in infancy.

    Survivors include a son, Paul Slattery, Mayetta; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Cummings, Topeka; six grandchildren and five
    great-grandchildren.

    Mass of Christian burial will be at
    1 p.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Hoyt.

    Mrs. Slattery will lie in state from
    2 to 9 p.m. today at Brennan Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today. She will lie in state after 11 a.m. Friday at the church.

    Julia Lee Slattery, 87, Rossville, died Jan. 9, 1990 at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.

    She was born in Netawaka Feb.
    9, 1902, the daughter of Samuel and Jessie Cochren Hemphill.

    Mrs. Slattery was a school teacher for Jackson County rural schools until the late 1940s.

    She and her husband farmed in Jackson County until 1966 at which time they retired and moved to Rossville.

    She was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville, the Golden Agers, St. Anthony's Alter Society, Retired Teachers Association and the Countryside Club.

    She was raised in the Netawaka and Holton area by her maternal grandparents after her parents died when she was very young.

    She was married to Cornelius Slattery Nov. 17, 1923 at Holton. He died on March 6, 1978; two infant sons and an infant daughter also preceded her in death.

    She is survived by her son, Paul Slattery, Mayetta; a daughter, Patricia Cummings, Topeka; six grand¬children and five great-grandchildren.

    Mrs. Slattery will lie in state at the Brennan Funeral Home on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. where a parish rosary will be recited. She will lie in state at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Rossville after 11 a.m. Friday. Mass of Christian burial will be cele¬brated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hoyt.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Julia Slattery memorial fund sent in care of the funeral home, 800 W. 6th, Topeka, Kan., 66603, to be designated by the family at a later date.
