Little Robert Azell Somers-James, son of Chauncey and Mattie (James) Somers, was born near Sterling, Kansas, May 12, and died at the home of his grandfather, Robert James, north of Rossville, on Oct. 27, 1918.
Little Axell lost his mother when only eight days old and since then has been tenderly cared for by his maternal grandmother. The entire family became greatly attached to him and he was formally adopted by them about two weeks before his death.
He had been in delicate health nearly all summer but had apparently completely recovered and his death came as a surprise. All was done for him that loving care and medical skill could devise, but God took him to his mother.
Rev. Mr. Wykert conducted the funeral and preached a very comforting sermon from the text: “I commend you to God.” Azell was laid to rest in the family lot by the side of his mother in Olive Branch cemetery.
