    The body of Pvt. Clifford Chase Spotts, 30, who was killed in action in France July 21, 1918, arrived in Topeka Wednesday. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow (Friday) afternoon from the Presbyterian church here. Burial will be in Rossville cemetery.

    The ceremonies will be conducted by his comrades of the Rossville Legion Post.

    Private Spotts was inducted into service September 19, 1917. At that time he was working for his father on a farm southeast of Tecumseh. He was made a member of Co. D, 353rd infantry at Camp Funston. He was transferred to Camp Pike November 12, where he became a member of Battery F, 334th field artillery. He went overseas in April, 1918.

    While overseas he was a member of Battery B 6th field artillery. He was a driver of an ammunition wagon and it was while returning from the front for another load of ammunition that he and his team was killed by a shell.

    Spotts was buried in the Commune of Missey-Aux Bois, Aisne, France. He is survived by his father, C.D. Spotts, who lives near Tecumseh and a sister, Mrs. Luther Lockenour, of Menoken. HIs mother was buried here last July. He was born in Friend, Nebr., Feb. 18, 1988. He came to Shawnee County with his father when a boy. The family resided here for several years.
