    Sylvia Townsend
    Mrs. Sylvia A. Townsend passed away Friday morning, August 18, 1950 in a San Mateo, California, hospital. Death was caused by complications from a recent injury. She was born November 3, 1890, near Jasper, Oklahoma, to Justin and Minnie Chilcott. She came to Kansas when she was 10 years old. She was united in marriage to George L. Townsend on February 10, 1909. To this union were born three children. They lived in this and neighboring communities.

    In 1928 the Townsends came to Rossville and were in the restaurant business for several years. Mrs. Townsend continued the business after the death of her husband in 1934. In 1947 she went to South San Francisco, Calif., to make her home.

    Funeral services were held at the Stewart Funeral Home, Wamego, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 23, with burial in the family lot at LaClede Cemetery. Miss Patricia Glotzbach sang "In the Garden" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Mr. Jesse Stewart at the piano. Rev. Gordon Coldsmith was in charge of the service.

    Mrs. Townsend is survived by two daughters, Donna of the home; Mrs. Val Shultz of Portland, Oregon, and a son, John, of South San Francisco. Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. May Cobb of Santa Clara, Calif.; four brothers, Robert M. Chilcott, of Concordia; Harry Chilcott, of Westmoreland; John Chilcott of El Reno, Okla., and Arthur Chilcott, of San Antonio, Texas; one grandson, Larry Allan Shultz, of Portland, Oregon.

    Mrs. Sylvia Townsend, 60, formerly of Rossville, died Friday in a hospital at San Mateo, Calif. She was born November 3, 1890.

    She is survived by three children, Donna Townsend of the home; John Townsend, South San Francisco, Calif and Mrs. Valerie Schultze, Spokane, Wash.; four brothers, John Chilcott, El Reno, Okla.; Harry Chilcott, Westmoreland; Arthur Chilcott, San Antonio, Texas and Bob Chilcott, Concordia.

    Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Wamego, with burial services at Laclede, Kans.


    Mr. and Mrs. Carlton Schultz of Portland, Ore., and Mr. and Mrs. John Townsend and their sister Donna Townsend of South Francisco, Calif.; drove through to be present for their mothers, funeral and burial service. Mrs. Townsend passed away last Friday was sent back by plane, and arrived in Topeka Tuesday.
