Charles Umscheid, 89, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013.
Charles was born October 17, 1924, at St. George, Kansas, son of Gerald and Viola (Zoeller) Umscheid. He honorably served in the US Navy during WWII.
Charles married Elizabeth Aubert on August 11, 1945, at Corona, California.
He worked for Seymour Foods, Inc. as a field service representative in the marketing department, retiring after 28 years of service. Charles was a member of the American Legion Post 400.
Charles is survived by his children, Karen E. Ostrander and Catherine I. Sawyer, both of Topeka, and Lawrence R. Umscheid of Rossville, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Gerard J. Umscheid in 1956, Richard C. Umscheid in 2000, and wife, Elizabeth in 2012.
Charles bequeathed his body to the University of Kansas for anatomical study. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery at a later date.
