He was born May 5, 1921 in Rossville, the son of Walter and Bessie Gutshal Van Vleck. He graduat4ed from Rossville High School and lived all of his life in the Rossville community. He managed Van Vleck Oil Station for 45 years. He was a member of the Rossville Christian Church and was the oldest member of the church being baptized in 1934. Omer also was a member of the Rossville Senior Center. He enjoyed bowling and gambling. He was married to Ann Van Vleck on Oct. 30, 1956, at Burlinton, KS. She died on Aug. 22, 2002. Mr. Van Vleck was also preceded in death by a son, Eric Hinterweger on Dec. 15, 1998. Survivors include a son Omer Lee Van Vleck, Rossville; a daughter Sharon Landreth, Junction City; a daughter-n-law Betty Cummings, St. Marys; a brother Marvin Van Vleck, Athens, GA; a sister Gladys Chilson, in Washington; 10 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2007 at the Rossville Christian Church. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Van Vleck will like in state after 2 p.m. today at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Senior Center or the Rossville Christian Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, 419 Main, Rossville, KS. 66533.
