They came to Rossville and spent the night at the home of C.M. Smith and wife south of town where they were charivaried in noisy style.
Miss Hale is one of Rossville's most estimable young ladies and the Reporter joins in wishing her abundant prosperity and happiness.
They will make their home near St. Marys. |

A.T. “Babe” and Ann Verschelden, St. Marys, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving on Sunday, October 4, at 9:15 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys. A reception in the Centennial Building will be from two to four o’clock. Relatives and friends are in¬vited.
Hosting the occasion will be their children: Theresa Schleif, Topeka; Alice Zeller, Mayetta; Joan Falley, Zeandale; Regina Verschelden, Ft. Collins, Colo.; John Verschelden, Lebanon, Mo.; Rita Etzel, LaMesa, Calif.; Ann Fouts, Ottawa; Anita Culbertson, Wamego; Frank Verschelden, Topeka; Margaret Cunningham, Norfolk, Va.; Kenny Verschelden, Rossville; and Joe Verschelden, with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif. A daughter, Mary Jo Lacock, died earlier this year. The Verscheldens have 35 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Alphonse T. Verschelden and Anna M. Aubert were married October 5, 1937, in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys. They have spent all of their lives in the St. Marys community. Sandy Hook has been their home all their married years, where they now live as semi-retired farmers.
The couple requests that no gifts be presented.

ST. MARYS — Anna Marie Verschelden, 86, a lifelong St. Marys resident, died Saturday, July 2,2005, at her home.
She was born March 10, 1919, at St Marys, the daughter of Joseph E. and Alice Hale Aubert. She graduated from Rock School, northwest of St. Marys.
She married A.T. “Babe” Verschelden in 1937. He preceded her in death on Christmas Day 1991. Mary Jo Lacock, her oldest daughter also preceded her in death as did three grandchildren, Judith Falley, Andy Zeller and Gary Lacock. Three sisters and two brothers also preceded her in death, Clara Kennedy, Mildred Mulford, Theresa Kulchawick, Edwin Aubert and Clyde Aubert.
survivors include one brother, James Aubert, St. Marys; 12 children, Theresa Schleif, Topeka, Alice Zeller, Mayetta, Joan Falley and Regina Verschelden, both of Manhattan, John Verschelden, Lebanon, Mo., Rita Etzel, San Diego, Ann Fouts, Ottawa, Anita Culbertson, Wamego, Frank Verschelden and Margaret Cunningham, both of Topeka, Kenneth Verschelden, Rossville and Joe Verschelden, St. Marys; 39 grandchildren; 47 great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
After rearing a large family, she devoted herself to the care of the elderly from 1984 to 2002.
She was a compassionate and loving mother, a devoted cook, and an avid generous gardener sharing fruits and vegetables with family and friends.
Anna was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys, the American Legion Auxiliary and a Hammond Hall quilter, a “very neat quilter.”
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. She will lie in state after 6 p.m. Wednesday at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys, where there will be a rosary at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys.
Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, 66536.

She was born March 10, 1919, near St. Marys and has lived in the community all of ho life. She was a homemaker and farm wife and has been a personal care giver to the elderly for the past few years. Anna married A.T. “Babe” Verschelden October 5, 1937, in St. Marys. He is deceased.
