    George Verschelden
    George Edward Verschelden, 45, a funeral home director at St. Marys, died at his home early Monday after a long illness.

    He was born April 4, 1906 in St. Marys and was active in civic affairs there until his illness. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Holy Name Society, and the Knights of Columbus of St. Marys and of the Kansas Funeral Directors Association.

    He leaves his wife Mrs. Catherine Johnston Verschelden; three sons, George Jr., and Michael of the home, and Pfc. Robert Verschelden, Fort Sheridan, Ill.; three daughters; Janet, Katrina and Marie of the home; two brothers; August J. of Washington, D.C. and Ernest J. of St Marys; four sisters; Mrs. Bernard Conroy of Manhattan; Mrs. William Keefe of Belvue, Mrs. Chester Bushey of Newton and Mrs. James Lewis of Wichita, and several nieces and nephews.

    Rosary was recited at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Verschelden Funeral Home and a Requiem mass was said at the Immaculate Conception Church at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys.
