    Lillian E. Jennings Wells was born August 24, 1904 to Thomas A. and Carrie Johnson Jennings near Ogden. She was the seventh of nine children.

    Lillian graduated from Junction City High School with a normal training certificate. Her family moved to Topeka where she was employed by Capper Publications.

    On November 14, 1925, Lillian was united in marriage with Myron Wells in the family home in Topeka.

    Lillian and Myron took his niece into their home to rear and to love for eight years. Mary Wells Schmidt resides in Harrisonville, Missouri.

    Lillian and Myron were established in farming near the Delia and Mayetta areas until 1972 when they moved to Holton.

    Lillian was a dedicated helpmate and community worker. She served on the school board several years.

    She became a member of the Mayetta Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star No. 383 in March, 1947. She served in various capacities including worthy matron in 1952 and was organist for seven years. She was district aide in 1960-61. She received her 25 year pin in 1972 and was a faithful member for 37 years.

    Lillian was preceded in death by her husband in February 1982.

    She is survived by Mary Schmidt, her sisters, Alice McGaffin of Topeka, Sarah Kimball of Holton; several nephews and nieces and many friends.

    Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 9, at The Mercer Funeral Home. Rev. Duane Kessler officiated. Mrs. Ray Wright sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Come Dine.”

    Casketbearers were C. L. Riley,
    Milton Schober, Charles Heckerson,
    Wayne Labbe, Bennett Olsen and
    Marvin Castle. Interment was in the
    Holton Cemetery.
