Wells
Lillie Mae Wells, 90, Soldier, died Wednesday, June 21, 1989, at a Topeka nursing home.
Miss Wells taught a year in a Delia school, then worked 42 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., in Topeka. She retired in 1965 and returned to the Soldier community.
She was born May 10, 1899, in Delia, the daughter of William and Cora Dove Wells. She was graduated from Soldier High School in 1917 and attended Strickler’s Business College in Topeka two years.
Miss Wells was a member of First United Methodist Church in Topeka.
Survivors include two sisters, Geneva Jones, Estes Park, Colo., and Velma Meade, Topeka; and a brother, Lester Wells, Grants Pass, Ore.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., June 23 at the Mercer Funeral Home, Holton. The Reverend Duane Kessler, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Holton officiated. Mrs. Ray Wright was the organist. The special selection that was chosen was "In The Garden." Casketbearers were Dennis Heath, Floyd Heath, Delbert Heath, Kevin Ward, Jerry Meade and Robert Wells. Interment was in the Soldier Cemetery, Soldier.
