| Obituary- Wheeler, O. Dean O. Dean Wheeler
O. Dean Wheeler, 81 of Soldier, died Sunday, Aug. 12,2012, at Community Hospital in Onaga. He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Galatia, the son of Orville Thomas and Augusta Carolina Hester Wheeler. Dean attended schools in Hoisington.
He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Dean had a dairy farm in Soldier for many years. Dean enjoyed fishing, hunting, calling in coyotes and attending grandkids’ sporting events. He was an avid K-State fan.
Dean married Lois A. Rieschick on June 14, 1953, in Soldier. She preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1996. Dean married Ramona Pelton on Aug. 16, 1996, in Oklahoma City, Okla. She survives. He is survived by a son, Jerry Wheeler and wife Annette of Soldier; daughters, Connie Arney and husband Stan of Wichita, Dora Gakle and fiance Noel Clark of Claremore, Okla., Kelly Browning and husband Steve of Havensville, Tawni Myers and husband Randy “Buck” of Havensville, and Brandi Bergstresser and husband Brandon of Rossville; grandsons, Benjamen Wheeler of Manhattan and Bryson Wheeler of Holton; 21 stepgrandchildren; and 18 stepgreat grandchildren.
Dean was preceded in death by grandson Nathan Wheeler in 1980, a sister, Opal Dumler, and brothers, Lester and Jack Wheeler. Funeral services were Aug. 16 at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
