    John C. Whittington
    ALLEN - John C. Whittington, 76, Allen, died Friday, Aug. 14, 1987, at an Emporia hospital.

    Mr. Whittington was a telephone technician for the S&A Telephone Co. at Allen since 1964.

    He was born April 10, 1911, at Lebo, the son of Philip and Susan Mae McKinney Whittington. He moved from Arvonia to Reading in 1958 and then to Allen in 1962.

    Mr. Whittington was a member of the United Methodist Church at Allen and was a Sunday school teacher at the church. He also was a past president and had served in other offices in the Northern Heights Men's Club near Allen. He was a former member of Arvonia Township Board and Allen City Council. He also had coached summer baseball teams at Allen, Reading and Lebo.

    He helped start the Osage City 4-H Livestock Sale. He also was a leader for 12 years of the Arvonia Busy Bees 4-H Club.

    He was married to Hildred Marshall on March 1, 1936, at Osage City. She survives.

    Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. JoAnne Booth, Delia, and Mrs. Donna Lee Weber, Mount Vernon, Mo.; two sons, John Whittington, Douglas, and Paul Whittington, Emporia; a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Martin, Madison; six brothers, Clyde Whittington and Louis Whittington, both of Reading, Wayne Whittington, Baldwin, Jacob Whittington, Chicago, Gene Whittington, Valley Center, and D.L. Whittington, Americus; nine grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Allen United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery at Lebo. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northern Heights High School Educational Scholarship Fund in care of Admire State Bank and Trust Co. at Emporia. Jones Funeral Home of Lebo is in charge of arrangements.
