Charles Joseph Williams, 80, Topeka, died Tuesday, Nov. 19, 1991, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Williams and his father owned and operated the Silver Lake, Rossville, Delia and Valencia Telephone Co. many years. After the company was sold, he worked 37 years as sanitarian for the Shawnee County Health Department until he retired in 1975. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was born Jan. 3, 1911, at Silver Lake, the son of Charles David and Ellen Veronica Cunningham Williams. He attended St. Benedict College at Atchison.
Mr. Williams was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council No. 534.
He was married to Mary Elizabeth Morrisey on Nov. 26, 1936, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Mary Kathleen Ruebel, Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Elizabeth V. Wunder, Topeka; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Williams will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at Brennan Funeral Home, where rosaries will be recited by Daughters of Isabella at 6 p.m., Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 at 6:30 p.m. and the parish at 7 p.m. today.
