    A family celebration earlier this month was held to honor the 50th wedding anniversary of John Kenneth and Ermyl M. (Reeder) Broyles, Delia.

    The couple was married July 26, 1953, at Silver Lake.

    Mr. Broyles was a farmer. Mrs. Broyles worked for 23 years for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She retired January 31, 1996.

    They are the parents of two daughters, Barbara and her husband James Hunt, Garden Plain; and Laura and her husband Rick Anderson, Meriden. They have seven grandchildren.

    Obituary- Broyles, Ermyl
    Ermyl Mae Broyles, 89, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. She was born January 19, 1934 in Silver Lake, the daughter of William Harry and Florence Mae (Cochran) Reeder.

    Ermyl graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1952. After graduation her and her husband farmed in Jackson County around Delia.

    She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claim’s specialist. Ermyl was dedicated farmwife, and homemaker. She enjoyed her hobby of quilting and was a member of Kansas Quilters Guild.

    Ermyl married John “Kenneth” Broyles on July 26, 1953 in Silver Lake, KS. They celebrated over 62 years of marriage before his passing on December 31, 2015. She is also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Hunt, and a brother, Robert H. Reeder.

    Survivors include her daughter, Laura Anderson (Rick) of Meriden, KS; 7 grandchildren, Chris, Matt (Marian), Daniel, and Nathan Anderson, Jerrod (Rachel), Jimmy, and John Hunt (Hope); 5 great-grandchildren, Wayne and Claire Hunt, Faith and Jack Hunt, and Theodore Anderson and son-in-law, James Hunt of Garden Plains, KS.

    Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 15, 2023 at Walnut Hill Cemetery located 5 miles north of Silver Lake. Family will greet friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday evening at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Memorials may be given to Silver Lake United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O. Box 270, Holton, KS 66436.
