    WILLIAM MARION AYE
The body of Wm. Aye, was brought to Rossville Saturday on the noon train and taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harry James where friends were given an opportunity to take a last glimpse of their old friend. Brief funeral services were conducted at the cemetery by the Rev H. L. Nelson of Topeka.
William Marion Aye was born at Newport, Indiana, April 10, 1844,died after a short illness April 12, aged 84 years and 2 days, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Emma Engberg, in Kansas City, Mo., where he and his wife had been living for the past two years.
On January 9th of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Aye had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, he hav¬ing married Alice Stroup in 1878, and two daughters were born to this union, Emma and Ethel, the latter passing on in childhood.
Mr. Aye, when 9 years of age came to Kansas with his parents, one of a family of nine, overland from Marion, Ohio, to the then territory of Kansas. They settled on a claim on the Neosho river early in 1854. His mother died a short after they arrived. The father then brought the family to Tecumseh, where Mr. Aye lived with his mother’s sister, Mrs. Jess Stephenson, until at 10 he went to Ottumwa, Iowa, to learn the harness making trade. More active work was denied him as rheumatism and an accident had made of him a cripple when only 12.
He returned to Topeka and fol¬lowed his trade for 27 years, em¬ployed by the firm of Burkhardt & Oswold, then three years for James Warner in Maple Hill and the last 27 years of his active work were spent in his own little shop in Rossville.
Truthful, honest, kind and so pa¬tient, despite his handicap, no one ever heard him complain. He spoke no ill of others, believed in God and followed His commands. The Gold¬en Rule was his one and only creed. A kind friend and neighbor, a lov¬ing husband, father and grand¬father, he leaves to mourn his pass¬ing his wife, daughter, three grand-children, two of whom he was a se¬cond father, two great grandchildren and his only remaining brother, Mor¬ris, who is living in Fresno, Calif.
