Benny Dean Catron, 82, of Meriden, passed away Monday, February 5,2018.
He was born May 16,1935 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Donald Blinn and Twila Corine (Flickinger) Catron. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Highland Park High School in 1953.
Benny co-owned and operated a welding shop in Wetmore, Kansas. He would later work for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and was employed by Stormont-Vail Hospital, retiring after 30 years of employment in 1997. After retirement, he worked and played at Village Greens Golf Course.
Benny married Maxine C. Sumner in March of 1955. They later divorced. He married Sherry Nocktonick in July 12, 1985 in Miami, OK. She preceded him in death on February 19,1993. Survivors include eight children, Keith Alan (Jeanette) Catron, Silver Lake, Rodney Wayne (Hope) Catron, Delia, Mark Duane (Angie) Catron, Delia, Brenda Lee (Joe) Catron-Kennedy, Emmett, Darold Dean Catron, Delia, Roger Blynn Catron, Topeka, Vern Joseph Catron, Rossville and Gayle Luanne (Don) Lambrecht, Holton; 22 grandchildren and several step-grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; four siblings, Donald (Wanda) Catron, Nadine Gilbert, Charley (Donna) Catron and Harley (Almira) Catron, all of Topeka; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bonnie Renfrow, Norene Ketcherside; and a daughter-in-law, Vicky (Reser) Catron.
Benny enjoyed Royals Baseball, hunting, fishing, golfing and working on and racing stock cars.
Honoring his request, Benny was cremated. A visitation of family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. until Noon, Friday, February 9,2018 at the Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Ave, Topeka. Private family inurnment will be at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Delia Community Pride Building Fund,412 Nora Ave, Delia, Kansas 66418.
