    FATHER JOHN LEO COOPER(1917 - 2014)
    Father John Leo Cooper, 96, a priest of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, died February 21, 2014, at Villa St. Francis in Olathe, Kan. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at St. Mary- St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N. 7th St., Kansas City, KS 66101 with Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann as the main celebrant and Father Cooper's brother priests concelebrating. Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, at Holy Cross Cemetery, Emmett, Kan.
    The visitation for Father Cooper will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Father Cooper's family requests that you remember him in your thoughts and prayers and they suggest memorial contributions to the charity of the donor's choice . John Leo Cooper was born Dec. 2, 1917, in Frankfort, Kan., the son of John and Roxie Violet (Purnell) Cooper. He graduated from high school in Basehor, Kan., Rockhurst College in Kansas City and St. Louis Preparatory in Webster, Mo. He entered Kenrick Seminary in Webster, Mo., and was ordained a Priest for the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas on Feb. 2, 1943. Father Cooper served as Parochial Vicar of Holy Name Catholic Church, Topeka, from 1943-47, Chaplain of St. Mary College, Leavenworth, 1947-54, Administrator Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Leavenworth, 1950-54, Pastor St. Dominic Catholic Church, Holton, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Mayetta, and Our Lady of the Snows Mission, Potawatomi Reservation, 1954-58, Pastor St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Wamego, 1958-64, Pastor Holy Name, Kansas City, Kan., 1964-70, Pastor Annunciation Catholic Church, Frankfort, 1970-78, and concurrently Pastor St. Joseph in Lillis, 1970-76, Pastor St. Elizabeth Church, Blue Rapids, 1976- 78, and as Chaplain of Providence- St. Margaret Health Center from 1978-91. Father Cooper began serving as the Archivist for the Archdiocese in 1991, a post he held until retirement, and was the Administrator of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bonner Springs, in 1994. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Anna Cooper and Sister Leo Marie Cooper, S.C.L. Father Cooper is survived by a sister, Alice Cooper Clark, Kansas City, Kan.
