    Mr. and Mrs. L.H. Spears of Rossville, Kansas, announce the marriage of their daughter, Helen Louise, to Mr. Donald Wayne Queen, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.T. Queen of Silver Lake, Kansas.

    The wedding took place Sunday, April 9, at 3 o'clock at the Rossville Methodist church. The Rev. Don Jones performed the ceremony before an altar decorated with palms, a large basket of Easter lilies and white candelabra. The pews were decorated with white satin bows.

    Mrs. Irene Campbell, violinist, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey at the piano, played nuptial selections before the ceremony including, "To A Wild Rose," "One Alone," and "Ave Maria." Mrs. Mary Jane Berkey sang "If I Could Tell You," and "Because," preceding the ceremony and "Wedding Prayer" at the close of the ceremony. She was accompanied by Mrs. Irene Campbell at the piano, who also played the traditional wedding marches.

    White tapers in candelabra at each side were lighted by little Miss Barbara Jean Spears, cousin of the bride, and little Miss Sandra Edwards, niece of the groom. They wore identical floor-length dresses of yellow satin trimmed with white lace and caught up in front colonial style. They wore matching mitts and halos of yellow carnations.

    The bride, given in marriage by her father, was lovely in her gown of white bridal satin designed with fitted bodice, long pointed sleeves and a yoke of nylon net trimmed with orange blossoms. The full skirt, caught up in front colonial style with orange blossoms ended in a aisle-wide train edged with French lace. The finger-tip veil of bridal illusion trimmed with French lace, was held in place by a tiara of orange blossoms. She carried an arm bouquet of red roses.

    Miss Ruth Spears, sister of the bride was maid of honor. She wore a gown of mauve satin styled with off shoulder neckline, bertha collar, fitted bodice and full skirt. She wore matching net mitts and shoulder length veil held by a halo of satin and carried a flower fan of yellow carnations.

    Miss Doris Queen, twin sister of the groom, was bridesmaid and wore a baby blue satin gown styled like that of maid of honor. She also wore matching net mitts and shoulder length veil held by a halo of blue satin and carried a flower fan of yellow carnations.

    Mr. Phil Runkle, Silver Lake, served as best man. Ushers were Mr. Calvin Queen, brother of the groom and Mr. Wallace Vilven, cousin of the bride.

    For her daughters wedding, Mrs. Spears chose a powder blue crepe dress with a yoke of lace, navy blue accessories and a corsage of white camellias. Mrs. Queen, mother of the groom, wore a coral pink crepe dress, black accessories and a corsage of white camellias.

    Mrs. Henry Smatla had charge of the guest book. A reception for all present followed immediately after the ceremony in the church parlor. The four tiered wedding cake was cut by Mrs. Wallace Vilven, aunt of the bride, served punch from a bowl containing lime punch topped with small flowers floating on orange slices. Other assisting friends were Mrs. Ralph Page, Mrs. Homer Reid and Mrs. James Wade, all of Rossville and Mrs. Bruce Laughlin of Oskaloosa.

    For traveling the bride chose a brown fine-checked, three piece suit, accessories of red and honey tan, and a corsage of red roses.

    After a week's wedding trip to Galveston, Texas, the couple will be at home at 735 Poplar, Topeka.

    Mrs. Queen, a graduate of Rossville High School, attended Kansas State College one year at at present is employed by the Central National Bank of Topeka.

    Mr. Queen, a graduate of Silver Lake High School, is employed by the Santa Fe at Topeka.

    Denise Kay Lober, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rex H. Lober, Topeka, and Douglas Joe Queen, son of Mrs. Helen Cook, Rossville, and Donald Queen, Topeka, exchanged wedding vows Saturday, November 12, 1983, at 7 p.m. in the Rossville United Methodist Church. Reverend Gene Damewood performed the double ring ceremony.

    The altar was decorated with candelabras filled with flowers in shades of rust and gold. As the candles were being lit, the song "Theme From Ice Castles" was sung by Mrs. Debbie Rovelle, accompanied by organist Stephanie Thomas. Roger and Debbie Rovelle also sang "You and I" and "The Wedding Song" during the ceremony.

    Candlelighters were Kim and Kelli Safarik, cousins of the bride.

    Escorted by her father, the bride wore an ivory gown of Venice lace and pearls. She created her wedding hat of ivory lace and pearls, and her silk bouquet of rust and ivory-colored roses sprinkled with peach-colored forget-me-nots and baby's breath.

    Susan Kippes, Topeka, was the bride's maid of honor. Mrs. Renae Stanley, Topeka, was bridesmaid. They wore rust-colored, floor-length, off-the-shoulder dresses. The gowns featured blouson tops with lace bodices and flowing skirts, separated by a matching belt. They carried a smaller version of the bride's bouquet. Their silk bouquets were made by the bride.

    The groom was attired in a tan tuxedo with dark brown trim. He wore an ivory shirt with a dark brown bow tie. His brown silk rose with baby's breath boutonniere was made for him by his bride.

    Serving the groom as best man was John Clark, Silver Lake. Stan Thompson, Rossville, was groomsman.

    The groom's attendants and father of the bride wore nutmeg brown tuxedos with ivory shirts and brown bow ties. Their boutonnieres were ivory silk roses with baby's breath and were made by the bride.

    Jeff Lober, the brother of the bride, and John Queen, brother of the groom, seated the guests.

    Janet Lynn Cavaness, Streamwood, Ill., cousin of the bride, was the flower girl. She wore a long dress in calico colors of rust, ivory and brown. She carried rust-colored rose petals in a rose trimmed basket.

    Scott Fox, Manhattan, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer. His tuxedo was identical to those of the groomsmen. He carried a heart-shaped satin pillow.

    The bride's mother wore a tan-colored floor-length gown with a long-sleeved jacket with scalloped edges. The groom's mother wore a floor-length blue gown with sheer sleeves. Both mothers wore corsages of fresh yellow rosebuds.

    Honored guests were the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lober, Manhattan.

    Presiding at the guest book was Mrs. Janet Blodgett, Topeka, friend of the bride.

    Following the ceremony, a reception was held in the basement of the church. The receiving table was covered with a lace tablecloth and was centered with a four-tiered wedding cake. Made by Mrs. Ruth Larson, aunt of the groom, the cake featured a dancing bride and groom under a lace arch. Rust-colored candles in brass holders completed the table setting. Mrs. Rita Riat, Wamego, and Mrs. Mary Larson, Rossville, served the cake. Mrs. Suzy Thompson, Rossville, served the coffee and punch.

    Following the reception, a dance was held at the Rossville American Legion.

    The bride is employed as retail sales manager at Capitol City Office Products in Topeka. The groom is engaged in farming in the Rossville community.

    The couple is at home near Rossville.

    Queens to celebrate 25tfi wedding anniversary
    Doug and Denise Lober Queen were married Nov. 12, 1983, in Rossville, at the United Methodist Church.

    The couple has lived on the family farm north of Rossville for the past 25 vears where they have enjoyed farming, raising their children and their passion for 4-H.

    Their children are Jessica and Daniel Aubert and Megan Queen.

    A party is being hosted by their children at the Rossville American Legion
    on Nov. 8, from 6:30 to 8p.m., with a reception, and dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.

    Everyone is welcome to come celebrate with them. The couple request no gifts.
