  Documents » Slide Show		Anniversary- Cowan, Kenneth and Mary 1 Ruby Celebration for Cowans Mary and Kenneth Cowan will be celebrating their fortieth wedding anniversary with a Mass of Thanksgiving on Saturday, February 12, 1983, at 4:30 p.m. at St. Stanislaus Church in Rossville. Following the Mass, the couple will host a dinner for their family a the Knights of Columbus Hall in Topeka. Kenneth Cowan and Mary Mattan were married February 12, 1943, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia, Ks. They are the parents of three daughters — Diane Elevier, Silver Lake, Vicki Wilson, Topeka, and Denise Denton, Silver Lake; and one son, Mark Cowan, Topeka. They have five grandchildren.

Hosting the reception will be their children, Diane and Fred Elevier, and Denise and Tom Denton, Silver Lake; Vicki and Mike Wilson, Holton; and Mark and Jackie Cowan, Kansas City, Mo.; and their five grandchildren. Kenneth Cowan and Mary C. Mat tan were married Feb. 12, 1943, at Sacred Heart Church, Delia. Mr. Cowan retired from Santa Fe Railway general offices in 1983 after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.

Mr. Elevier is a 1962 graduate of Rossville Rural High School and attended Fort Hays State College and Washburn University. He is also employed in the Santa Fe offices.
  		Marriage- Cowan, Diana-Elevier, Frederick Miss Diana Lynn Cowan and Mr. Frederick E. Elevier exchanged marriage vows at 1:00 p.m., May 27, in the Immaculate Conception Church, St. Marys. The Rev. A.H. Schulz, S.J., read the nuptial Mass. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cowan, Rossville, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Marney, also of Rossville. The bride chose for her wedding a gown of Alencon lace, designed in a sheath silhouette. The empire bodice featured a stand-up collar trimmed with seed pearls, and bridal point sleeves. A watteau train of lace fastened high on the back with an organza bow, and extended to chapel length. Her bouffant veil of imported bridal illusion was held by a double crown of lace loops edged with seed pearls. She carried a bouquet of gardenias, sweetheart roses and ivy, with ribbon streamers. Vicki Cowan, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. Bridesmatrons were Mrs. Rodney Lasswell, Mrs. Steven Kinzel, and Mrs. Francis DeDonder. Denise Cowan, also a sister of the bride, was junior bridesmaid. Flower girl was Kathleen Marney, and Alan Martinek was ring bearer. Mr. Elevier was attended by Keith Cowan as best man. Groomsmen were Dave Meneley, Steven Kinzel, and Stan Aldrich. Tom Meyer and Bill Hodges ushered. A reception in the Centennial Building, St. Marys, followed the wedding. Both Mr. and Mrs. Elevier are graduates of Rossville High School. The bride is also a graduate of Clark's School of Business, and the bridegroom attended Fort Hays State College, and Washburn University. Both are employed in the Santa Fe General Offices, Topeka. After a honeymoon trip to the Ozarks the couple is at home at 2240 Plass, Topeka. [From 27 May 1967]
