  Obituary- Carrell, Clayton ROSSVILLE -- Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Christian Church here for Clayton W. Carrell, 89, Route 1, Rossville, who died Saturday, Oct. 8, 1994, at a nursing home here. He was born April 15, 1905 in Leonardville, the son of Wilbur Grayson and Sophia Marie Schultes Carrell, and spent his early life in the Leonardville and Randolph communities. He lived northwest of Rossville since 1936. He was a farmer and stockman many years and worked for Kaw Dehydrators in Rossville several years. Mr. Carrell was a member of the Christian Church in Rossville and a 50-year member of Modern Woodmen of America in St. Marys. He was a trustee on the Rossville Township board 33 years and had served as township assessor. He was married to Alverta M. Lemon March 5, 1936, in Rossville. She died Sept. 7, 1994. Survivors include a son, Leroy E. Carrell, Rossville; and two sisters, Alice Menkens, Kansas City, Mo. and Lula Webb, Salina. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Carrell will lie in state from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Church or Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion, both in Rossville, 66533.

  Documents » Slide Show		Bridal Shower- Lemon, Alverta Miss Alverta Lemon was the honor guest at a bridal shower last Friday afternoon, given by Mrs. Etta Boyles and Mrs. Rose Shoebotham at the Boyles home. The color scheme of green and white was carried out in the decorations and serving. The honoree was the recipient of many lovely gifts in a miscellaneous shower. Games, contests and a mock wedding with Patricia Adair as bride and Jennie Heiland as groom. Mrs. Shoebotham acted as the minister. The guests present were Miss Lemon, Mrs. Chas.   		Marriage- Lemon, Alverta-Carrell, Clayton Lemon-Carrell At a pretty home wedding solemnized Thursday, March 5, in the presence of the immediate relatives and friends, Miss Alverta Lemon, the younger daughter of Mrs. Alice Lemon, Rossville, became the bride of Mr. Clayton Carrell, the elder son of Mr. and Mrs. W.G. Carrell of Manhattan. The wedding party entered the beautifully decorated parlor to the strains of Lohengrin's Wedding March, played by Miss Edith Higginbotham, a former music teacher of the bride. Preceding the ceremony she played "Spring Song" and "Hearts and Flowers." Miss Lula Carrell, sister of the groom, attired in a yellow georgette dress, with a corsage of sweet peas, sang "I Love You Truly," and "Ah Sweet Mystery of Life." The impressive single ring ceremony was used by the Rev. Erby Messimer of Manhattan, minister of the Rossville Christian church. The bridal party stood beneath a white wedding bell, in a corner of the parlor banked with potted plants and ferns. Miss Anita Lemon lighted the candles before the couple entered the room. The bride wore a beautiful rose colored crepe silk wedding gown, and carried a bouquet of pink roses and white lilies. The matron of honor, Mrs. Trop Lemon, sister-in-law of the bride, wore a blue flat crepe dress. Dorothy Jean Lemon, niece of the bride, dressed in yellow silk, was flower girl and Irma Menkens, niece of the groom, also wearing yellow silk, carried the ring on a white satin pillow. The groom was attended by Mr. Troy Lemon, brother of the bride. Both wore navy blue suits. Immediately following the ceremony a bountiful three-course wedding supper was served at the home of the bride, where this worthy couple will continue to reside. The centerpiece of the dining table was a three-tier angel food cake with pink and white decorations. The gifts were many and beautiful. Mrs. Carrell has grown to womanhood in this community. She graduated from Rossville high school with the class of 24. She has been active in church and social circles and popular among a wide circle of friends. Mr. Carroll is a competent young farmer and popular among his friends. Miss Alice Lemon had charge of the guest book. The guests included: Rev. and Mrs. Erby Messimer and son, Mr. and Mrs. W.G.   		Anniversary- Carrell, Clayton and Alverta 1 Carrells will observe 40th year Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Carrell, Rossville, will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday, March 7, with an Open House at the Rossville Community Center from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. The couple requests that no gifts be presented. The Open House will be hosted by their son, Leroy, Rossville, a dear family friend, Miss Isabel Shoebotham, Fairbury, Nebr., nieces and nephews. Photo by Lou Mahan
  		Anniversary- Carrell, Clayton and Alverta 2 Carrells Will Celebrate Golden Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Carrell, Rossville, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception Sunday, March 2, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the Rossville American Legion Hall. The celebration will be hosted by their son, Leroy, nieces, nephews and friends. Alverta Lemon and Clayton Carrell were married March 5, 1936, in the home of Mrs. Alice Lemon, Mrs. Carrell’s mother. The couple continued to live at the same location all of their married life. They invite friends and relatives to rejoice with them in this celebration and request that no gifts be presented.
