    Dale George
    Dale George, 86, Dover, died Saturday, October 12, 2002, at a Topeka nursing home.

    He was born April 30, 1916, near Dover, the son of Milo Blaine and Jennie Shideler George. He had lived in the Dover community all of his life.

    He grew up on a farm one mile northeast of Dover. He was graduated from Dover High School in 1935.

    Mr. George was a farmer and stockman in the Dover community for many years. He was in the trucking business for 10 years. He was a dairy fanner and had the first automated chicken house in the state of Kansas. At one time, he had a peak of 14,000 chickens.

    He was a member of the Dover Federated Church and served on the Church Board for six years. He served on the Dover Cemetery Association and had been president before the township took it over. He served on the Township Board and on the Cemetery Board about 36 years, and was serving as treasurer at the time of his death.

    Mr. George served on the Dover School Board; was a Federal Land Bank Director for 15 years; on the Shawnee County Extension Council for nine years; with the Shawnee County Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service for 20 years, where he was director and committeeman. He helped organize the water board in 1954, and it was 1959 before they got the Rural Water District established. He was a 58-year member of the Masonic Lodge, 62-year member of the Dover Grange; and had a membership of over 50 years with the International Order of Oddfellows Lodge in Dover.

    On May 20, 1939, he married Bernice Kimble at Emporia. She died April 16, 1981.

    Survivors include a son, Ron George, Dover; a daughter, Karen Welborn, Lenexa; a sister, Mildred Fischer, Topeka; two granddaughters, and two grandsons.

    Mr. George’s service was at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dover Federated Church. Burial was in the Dover Cemetery. Family visitation was Sunday evening at the Dover Federated Church.
