THE MONTH OF JUNE, 1998, is one that Hugh and Geneva Fairbanks will treasure. It began on their 50th wedding anniversary June 18, when they had dinner out with friends. On Sunday, June 28, their immediate family and special guest, Sharon Salyer Meissner, Topeka, attended the 11 a.m. worship. Following worship, Pauline and Joe Conley and Barbara and Joe Driver emceed a short program with special songs and the presentation of the first copy of Hugh’s biography to him and each member of the family. Geneva spent three years writing it, with the assistance of the Drivers and Conleys.

After family pictures were taken, the family had dinner waiting at home, catered by Puffy’s in Maple Hill. Later that afternoon, Geneva’s sister, Naomi Sumner, assisted her in buttoning the 30 buttons up the back of her wedding dress, which she wore.
