Ona Sutherland was born June 16. 1887. in New Douglas, Illinois, to Martha and Walter Binney. She passed away January 23, 1957.
She moved to Rossville from Coffey, Missouri, in a covered wagon in 1898. She was baptized in the Methodist church as a child.
She was united in marriage to Claude Sutherland on January 4. 1921. at Maple Hill. Kansas, and was the mother of two children, Claude Duane Sutherland, now of Park Forest, Illinois, and Martha Maxine Strimple of Waterville, Kansas.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by one grandchild, Marcilyn Strimple; three stepchildren, Mamie Walker, Pratt, Kansas, Thomas Scritchfield, Topeka, Kansas, Cleo Schwartz, Gorham, Kansas; 5 step-grandchildren and three great grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Runin, Rossville: a brother, Lawrence Binnev, Topeka. Several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and sister.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Rossville Methodist church, with Rev. Don Jones officiating. Music was furnished by Lorene Harth and Maxine Trimble accompanied at the piano by Irene Campbell. Pallbearers were Guy Strimple, Allen Carter, Curtis Brown, Barton Parker, Press White, and Henrv Davis. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery. Hurley funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
