25TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martinek were pleasantly surprised Saturday evening when a group of friends and neighbors came in to help them celebrate their 25th Wedding Anniversary.
They received many lovely gifts. Among them was a set of silverware from JoAnn and Mary.
The evening was spent visiting and watching television. At a late hour, refreshments of home made ice cream and cake, sandwiches and ice tea were served.
Those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Martinek, Mrs. Cecelia Schumaker, Larry and Catherine, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Davis, Ronnie and Dennie, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dolezilek and Bobby, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Mason, Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Reading, Mr. and Mrs. Luther McClain and Shelley, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cerny and Marcia. Mary and Jo Ann and Vince Martinek.

Martinek-Copeland Nuptial Mass Celebrated
In St. Stanislaus church, Rossville, the Rev. A.H. Schultz, SJ, celebrated the nuptial mass for Josephine Ann Martinek and Robert L. Copeland of Fort Payne, Ala., August 30 at 8 a.m. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. Martinek, Rossville.
Mrs. Joe Ronsee, organist, played the wedding music and the accompaniments for the singers, Mrs. Peggy Verschelden and Mrs. Barton Neubaur.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a wedding dress of chantilly lace and tulle, ballerina length. The fitted bodice of lace was fashioned with an illusion yoke and Queen Anne collar of lace. The long, lace sleeves, tapered to points over the hands. A deep lace peplum accented the full tulle skirt. Her two-tier wedding veil feel from a crown of pearlized orange blossoms. She carried a lace-covered prayer book with a glamelia corsage.
Mrs. Larry Schumacker was matron of honor for her sister. Bridesmaids were Darlene Ann Davis and Barbara Ann Dechand. Their dresses of chiffon taffeta were designed with fitted bodices, scoop necklines, short cap sleeves and side panels of shirring forming deep pouffs on the skirts. The matron of honor wore scarlet, the bridesmaids, emerald green. They wore matching velvet calots with wide tulle brims and carried white carnations with streamers matching their dresses.
Larry Schumaker of St. Marys was best man. Vincent Martinek, brother of the bride, and Jack Homan, were groomsmen. Ushers were Gerald Perry and Edward Humston.
A breakfast followed the ceremony. Later there was a reception in the Rossville Community Center. Assisting were Mrs. Ted Dolezilek, Mrs. Dee Young, Mrs. Edward Rafferty, Mrs. DeVere Miller, Mrs. Clarence Smith, Mrs. Robert Whitley and Mrs. Paul Wilson.
The bride, a graduate of Rossville Rural High School, is employed in the accounting department of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Topeka. Mr. Copeland, graduate of Fyffe, Ala., High School, is employed by the Irby Construction Company in St. Marys. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. Millard Copeland of Fort Payne, Ala.
The couple is at home in Rossville.

Jo Copeland ROSSVILLE - Jo Copeland, 68, Rossville, died Tuesday, April 19, 2005, at her home. She was born July 15, 1936, in Rossville, the daughter of Henry R. and Regina M. Ryan Martinek. She grew up in Rossville and graduated from Rossville High School in 1954. She had lived in the Rossville community all of her life. She had worked several years at Southwestern Bell in Topeka. She worked more than 30 years as a secretary for the Kansas Legislature and worked this past session. Mrs. Copeland was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. She also was a member of the Rossville High School Booster Club. She married Robert L. “Bob” Copeland on Aug. 30, 1958. He died May 6, 2003. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry Martinek; and a sister, Agnes White. Survivors include five daughters, Anna Lane, Wamego, Sheila Towers, Manhattan, and Barb Newsham, Vicki Martinson and Trish Heim, all of Rossville; a son, Steve Copeland, Sedgwick; a sister, Mary Schumaker, St. Marys; a brother, Vincent Martinek, Topeka; 21 grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Copeland will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the church in St. Marys, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Swimming Pool Fund or St. Stanislaus Catholic Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, Kan. 66536.
