wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Mitchell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner held Sunday, July 1, at their home. The couple's eight children and their families were present for the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were married at Alma on June 23. Hi06, and have lived most of their married site in the Maple Hill and Rossville communities. Mr. Mitchell is a retired farmer. There are 26 grand children and six great grandchildren.
Members of the family present for the dinner were: Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mitchell and family of Circleville. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Polson of Holton, Mrs. Ruby Adams and daughter from Idaho. Mr. and Mrs. John Howe from Willard, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Clark from Topeka, Mr. and Mrs. Tom O’Donnell, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Britt, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nadeau and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Olejnik and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Mitchell and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Olejnik and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Olejnik, all from Rossville.

ON 54th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. George Mitchell were honored guests at a dinner Sunday in celebration of their 54th wedding anniversary.
The dinner was given at the home of Mrs. Roxie Nadeau. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Tom 0 Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Mitchell, Darryl, Diana, Debbie, and Darwin, Mrs. Ivan Britt, Mrs. Allan Rose, Stevie and Randy, Mrs. Bill Oleinik, Lila and Bobby, all of Rossville; Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mitchell, Loren and David of Circleville, Mrs. Wayne Clark, Phil and Douglas, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mitchell, Rhonda and Brenda, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mitchell and Mike, Mrs. Jerry Lister, all of Topeka; Miss Jean Nadeau, Misses Salley and Susan Nadeau, Mike, David and Dennis Nadeau.

Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Britt, Rossville, will be honored with a 50th wedding anniversary reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, December 14, at the Rossville Community Center. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
Hosts will be the couple's daughter and son-in-law, Allen and Dolores Rose, along with their grandchildren and families, Steve and Sharon Rose, Randy and Shari Rose, Sandee Rose, and great-grandson, Brian Rose. Also assisting will be Mrs. Christina Olejnik, Rossville.
Mr. and Mrs. Britt were married December 30, 1930, in Atchison, Ks. They lived in Kelly, Ks. several years before moving to Oregon. They have made their home in Rossville for the last 35 years. Mr. Britt is a retired carpenter.

| Obituary- Britt, Sylvia 1 Sylvia Jane Britt, 87, Rossville, died Wed., June 27, 2001 at a Topeka hospital. She was born July 27, 1913 at Wamego, daughter of George and Ethel Lister Mitchell.
She lived in the Rossville community for many years. She had lived in Oregon, Washington, Colorado, and Nebraska. She worked at the school in Rossville as a cook and had also worked at the cherry canning factory in The Dalles, OR as a cherry pitter.
She married Ivan Britt on Dec. 30, 1930 in Atchison. He died on Aug. 29, 1986. Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Rose, Rossville; four sisters, Velda O'Donnell, Paxico, Roxie Banta, Silver Lake, Ruby Adams, Portland, OR, Elvara Olejnik, Delia; a brother, Ted Mitchell, Maple Hill; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her service was Sat. at 10 a.m. at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in Rossville Cemetery, Rossville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sylvia J. Britt Memorial FUnd to be designated at a later date and sent in care of the funeral home. Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys, was in charge of arrangements.

ROSSVILLE — Sylvia Jane Britt, 87, Rossville, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at a Topeka hos¬pital.
Mrs. Britt had been a cook for Rossville school and she was a cherry pitter in a cherry canning factory in Dalles, Ore.
She was born July 27, 1913, in Wamego, the daughter of George and Ethel Lister Mitchell. She had lived in Oregon, Washington, Colorado and Nebraska before she returned to Rossville several years ago.
She married Ivan Britt on Dec. 30, 1930, in Atchison. He died Aug. 29, 1986.
Survivors include a daughter, Dolores Rose, Rossville; four sisters, Velda O’Donnell, Paxico, Roxie Banta, Silver Lake, Ruby Adams, Portland, Ore., and Elvara Olejnik, Delia; a brother, Ted Mitchell, Maple Hill; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery in Rossville. Mrs. Britt will lie in state from 2 to 7 p.m. Friday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Contributions may be made to the Sylvia J. Britt Memorial Fund to be designated later and sent in care of the funeral home.
