Ernestine L. Baird, 89, Maple Hill, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002, at a Topeka hospital.
She was born February 1, 1913, in Chetopa, the daughter of George and Margaret Von Treba Sargent. She lived in the Maple Hill comŽmunity the past few years. She had lived in Topeka for many years.
She grew up in the Riley comŽmunity and was graduated from Riley High School. She attended Emporia State Teachers College, Emporia. She was a life member of the Riley County Eastern Star.
On December 23, 1941, she married Vernon W. Baird, Sr. He died August 24, 1976. A sister, Elizabeth Sargent, also died.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon W. Baird, Rossville, and George Baird, Carbondale; a daughter, Mary Susie Miller, Maple Hill; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Friday at 3 p.m. in the Rossville Cemetery. A family visitation was held from 7-8 Thursday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys.

She was born Feb. 1, 1913, in Chetopa, the daughŽter of George and Margaret Von Treba Sargent. She was raised in Riley County and graduated from Riley High School. She attended Emporia State Teachers College, and she lived for many years in Topeka.
Mrs. Baird was a member of the Riley County Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She married Vernon W. Baird Sf. on Dec. 23,
1941. He died Aug. 24, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon W. Baird, Rossville, and George Baird, Carbondale; a daughter, Mary ''Susie" Miller, Maple Hill; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Baird will lie in state at Piper- Verschelden Funeral Horne in St. Marys after 3 p.m. today, where visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
Contributions may be made to the Maple Hill ComŽmunity Congregational Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, 66536.
