    Mr. Cecil Lemon and Miss Anna Lee were united in marriage by the probate judge in his office at Topeka Wednesday morning. Both are popular young people living a few miles northwest of town--the groom a son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Lemon and the bride has made her home for several years past with her uncle, Mr. Kennett.

    The Reporter joins their many friends in wishing them a long, happy and prosperous wedded life.

    Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lemon were pleasantly surprised last Sunday at the home of his mother, Mrs. Charley Lemon, where relatives gathered to help them celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. A covered dish luncheon was served cafeteria style. Mr. and Mrs. Lemon were presented with two sets of silver ware. The following relatives and friends were present: Mr. and Mrs. James Lee and sons, of Axtel, Ks., Mr. and Mrs. John Lee and sons of Vermilon; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Holder and children of Soldier; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lee and family of Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Troy Lemon. Miss Frances Whittington, Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Carrol of Manhattan; Mrs. Dora Lee of Topeka; Miss Alice Lemon. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lemon and children.

    Anita Mae VandeVelde
    ST. MARYS — Anita Mae VandeVelde, 71, St. Marys, died Friday, Sept. 15, 1995, at her home.

    Mrs. VandeVelde worked for the St. Marys Grade School as a custodian and a cook. She also had worked for Crosby Brothers in Topeka and at a St. Marys restaurant.

    She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Rossville, the daughter of Cecil and Anna Lee Lemon. She was reared in Rossville and had lived in Emmett before she moved to St. Marys in 1981.

    Mrs. VandeVelde was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Marys.

    She married August VandeVelde on July 21, 1941, at Delia. He died July 14, 1989.

    Survivors include seven sons, August C. “Sonny" VandeVelde, Silver Lake, Ronald VandeVelde, Havensville, Robert VandeVelde, Topeka, Dan VandeVelde, Rick VandeVelde and Steve VandeVelde, all of St. Marys, and Jerry VandeVelde, Lyndon; six daughters, Pat Rezac, Emmett, Mary A. Haug, Topeka, Cathy Neuendorf, St. Marys, Dee Dee Preble, Chambers, Ariz., Nancy Sullivan, Shawnee Mission, and Sandy Brungardt, Overland Park; a sister, Dorothy McDonald, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Clyde Lemon, Des Moines, Iowa; 45 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

    A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home. Mass of Christian r Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday (this morning) at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St Marys. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, St. Marys.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Anita Mae VandeVelde Memorial Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
