    MRS. ATTEBURY’S MOTHER DEAD
    Deceased Lady, 86, Came to Shawnee
    County 72 Years Ago.

    Mrs. William Owen, 86 years old, died at 10:30 o’clock Tuesday night at her home, 1612 Harrison street, Topeka.

    Mrs. Owen, who was one of the early settlers of Kansas, coming to the state in 1857 when it was still a territory, was widely known over the county, where she was prominent in the affairs of the Old Settlers’ association. Mrs. Owen was only 14 years old upon her arrival in Kansas but the next year taught one of the first schools in Shawnee county.

    Beside the Old Settlers’ association Mrs. Owen was a member of the Trinity Methodist church of Topeka, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

    She married at an early age and is survived by the following 9 children: Mrs. W. S. Attebury of this community; Mrs. L. H. Neiswender, of Silver Lake; Mrs. D. L. Button of North Topeka; Mrs. Bert Burton of North Topeka; Mrs. Frank Welton, 1634 Harrison, Topeka; Miss Olive Owen of the home address; Mrs. Albert Ricketts, Burbank, Calif.; Car-roll Owen of North Topeka; and Will D. Owen of Hugo, Colo, and by 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be at the Trinity Methodist church at 2 p. m., tomorrow (Friday). Burial will be in Rochester cemetery
