E.M. McADAMS DIES
AFTER LONG ILLNESS


Widely Known Retied Joplin Railroad Man Had Been With Missouri Pacific 43 Years
Edward McCoy McAdams, for 43 years an employee of the Missouri Pacific railroad in Joplin, died at his home 2120 Pennsylvania avenue, at 9:40 o’clock Wednesday morning (July 31), following a six months’ illness. He was 73 years old.

Mr. McAdams had served railroads of the middle west for nearly 55 years, beginning as a young man in Rossville, Kansas, in 1887. His career included adventurous service with pioneering lines, before beginning his long employment with the Missouri Pacific.

Suffered Paralytic Stroke
He suffered a paralytic stroke in January, and was a patient in the Missouri Pacific hospital in St. Louis for several weeks. About three months ago he showed improvement, but recently suffered a relapse.

He was retired May 1 as passenger agent here for the Missouri Pacific. Mr. McAdams came to Joplin as a cashier for the Missouri Pacific railroad in January, 1896. In 1901 he was made city and traveling passenger agent and in 1906 was promoted to city passenger and freight agent, which position he held continuously until his retirement.

Mr. McAdams began his railroad career in 1887 as a telegraph operator and relief agent for the Union Pacific at Perryville, Kans., and various other stations of the line. He left the Union Pacific in December, 1890, and went to Alabama, where he was employed as operator and agent with the Louisville and Nashville railroad until June, 1891. He resigned to take a position with the Texas and Pacific railroad at Colorado and Abilene, Tex., later going to the Indian Territory to work for the M.-K.-T. railroad and the Choctaw Coal and Railway Company.

In January, 1894, Mr. McAdams went to Nevada as cashier of the M.-K.-T. While there he shared offices with the Missouri Pacific and was offered the cashiership of the Poplin office.

Born in Indiana
He was born in Washington, Ind., June 17, 1867 moving to Rossville, with his parents at the age of 3. He was married June 18, 1902, at Anadarko, Okla., to Miss Mabel Stelzner, who survives.

Mr. McAdams was an elder in the Community Church and a member of the Kiwanis Club, Joplin Lodge No. 335, A. F. & A. M., and a Scottish Rite Mason. He served as wise master of Joplin Chapter, Knights Rose Croix, from 1933 to 1935.

Also surviving are a son, Julius McAdams of Bolivar, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. E. G. Jamieson of Moline, Illinois.

Funeral arrangements were under direction of the Hurlbut Undertaking Company.—Joplin Globe.
