Railroad doing construction work in Western Kansas, after which he passed the examination for signal maintainer and was stationed at Bonner Springs, building up the work there. He was then sent to Linwood, Kansas. He entered military service in June of 1918 was sent to Camp Funston, transferred to Ft. Crook, Neb., and from there he was sent to Nitro, W. Va. He belonged to Co. C 26 Bn, U.S.G. He was one of the United State Guards, guarding the explosive plant at Nitro.
