Hays, Kas., July 6 (AP) -- A family of five was found shot to death today in their home on the east side of Hays. Ellis County Sheriff Clarence Werth called the deaths multiple murder and suicide.

Werth identified the dead as George Schwerdt III, 31; his wife, Lillian, 29, and their three children, Michael, 7, Anna Marie, 5, and Tommy, 2.

The family's neighbors reported Schwerdt was seen about 11 p.m. Saturday in the yard of his home. Because of lack of activity around the house Sunday and early today, neighbors became suspicious and notified police and sheriff's officers.
