Obituary- Young, Oscar

O. H. YOUNG
Oscar H. Young died at 3:30 Tuesday morning at his home on Navarre street, after being bedfast for the past 15 months. He suffered a stroke of paralysis about 3 years ago and had been confined to his home since.

Funeral services were held today at the Christian church conducted by Rev. G. G. Horne, the pastor. Burial was in Rossville cemetery.

Mr. Young was a native of Walchville, Montgomery Co., Illinois, where he was born Jan. 27, 1857. On the date of his death he was 72 years and 23 days old.

He was married to Martha J. Kerr at New Douglas, Illinois, Feb. 14, 1878 and in the fall of the same year came to Kansas locating at Rossville.

Mr. Young at one time owned land southwest of town and also an 80 acre farm east of town, the house formerly standing a short distance south of the city cemetery. The family left the place in 1892 and moved into town and had resided here since. Mr. Young had been a member of Hesperian Lodge since 1886. At various times he had served as marshal of Rossville.

Beside his widow he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rosa Bixby and Mrs. Bertha James, both of this community; a brother, Elmer Young, of Topeka; eleven grand children and two great grandchildren.

Mrs. Albert Thomas of Topeka was here today for the Oscar Young funeral.
