Dr. Henry B. Miller Dies

Dr. Henry B. Miller died Sunday, September 8, at a Topeka hospital after a long and painful illness. He was 76.

Dr. Miller was born January 1, 1881, in Rossville. He graduated from Baker University at Baldwin in 1903 and taught school in Overbrook for two years.

He entered University of Kansas as a laboratory student and a chemistry instructor. Dr. Miller graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School and served as a resident physician at the University of Pennsylvania hospital, the Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia and the Philadelphia Hospital for Contagious Diseases.

He joined his father’s practice here in 1909 and except for the years 1929-31 when he practiced in Topeka, he has practiced in Rossville.

He was a past master of Hesperian Lodge 111 and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka.

Dr. Miller entered the hospital October 24, 1956, for surgery and was expecting to return in a few weeks when he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on November 4, 1956, at the hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Reed Miller of the home; a brother, Earl D. Miller of Topeka; 3 nieces and 4 nephews. He was preceded in death by his only sister, Emma Majors, in 1927.

Services were held at 2 pm Wednesday at the Rossville Methodist Church with Rev. Don Jones officiating. Hesperian Lodge 111 held graveside services at the Rossville Cemetery. Pallbearers were Marlin Harth, Clifford Cormack, John Fauerbach, Herbert Trimble, Roy Wilt, Leroy Parr, William Martinek, and Alfred Hause. Parker Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rossville business firms closed during the funeral of Dr. Miller. Both the grade and high schools met in a program of prayerful dedication to him during the hour of his funeral.
