Leora Mae Wyker
ST. MARYS — Leora Mae Wyker, 88, St. Marys, died Saturday, Jan. 26,2002, at a St. Marys nursing home.
She was born Nov. 15,1913, in Cherryvale, to Bert and Bessie Paige Hayes, and lived in St. Marys many years. She was a hairdresser and owned and operated a beauty shop in St. Marys 60 years before she retired.
She was a member of the Christian Church, in Rossville, and active in the United Methodist Church, in St. Marys. She was a member of Loyal Chapter No. 176 of Order of Eastern Star, in Silver Lake, and the auxiliary to Hoy-Heim Post No. 178 of the American Legion 34 years, in St. Marys.
She married Chester Wyker in 1954. He died in 1967.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Pamela Pace, St. Marys; a brother, Lowell Hayes, in Colorado; two sisters, Pauline Henderson, Carrollton, Mo., and Bernita Niddiffer, Pampa, Texas; and three stepgrandsons.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Cemetery south of Belvue. Mrs. Wyker will lie in state from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys, where the auxiliary to Hoy-Heim Post No. 178 of the American Legion will conduct a service at 7 p.m. and visitation will follow until 8 p.m.
